| On Sex (part 2) |
| The Chakra System and Love Part of Eastern religion that has been adopted by the new age movement is what is called the Chakra system. These are sets of energy centers located at strategic places in our bodies. In most traditions there are seven major points that correspond to the spectrum of visible light. I see them not only as an internal network of balance but also the path of our evolution individually and as a species. They are located along the line of the spine. The first or base chakra is red and represents our agreement to be present on the planet in physical form. It is our connection to the planet and our commitment to the community. The second is orange and located between the groin and the navel. It is our identity as self. This represents our insecurities, our survival instincts, and primal drives such as hunger, fear and sex. The third is where we take control. The yellow chakra is where we learn to set boundaries between the community and ourselves. It is the "Me" or the "No" chakra. The fourth is the heart chakra. In the color spectrum it is green, however some see it as pink. This is where we experience love. It is my understanding that much of the hurt and confusion we might experience over love comes from not handling things in the lower chakras prior to opening to love. The fifth or blue chakra is located near the throat. This is where we communicate both speaking and listening are centered here. As we come into ourselves, take our power, and find our love we are then able speak our truth. You might also describe this as a mirror image of the third chakra in that this is where we communicate with the community. Passing through the love of the heart, the "me" will become us. The sixth or brow chakra is deep indigo blue. As the mirror of the second chakra, this is where we find our divine self. Some call this the third eye. Through this area we connect with what is unseen in the world. Spiritual connections are held here. The seventh chakra is seen as purple or white and is located just above the crown of the head. As the first chakra was our connection to the earth, this is where we connect with the universe. The Shaman The shaman rides the drum to enter other worlds and levels of consciousness. This process stirs the energies in the second chakra area. It is critical that the shaman recaptures their power to be effective. The source of the energy lies within the nature of creation. Creative energy, life force is the most intense and affective form of power. This involves healing old wounds, breaking the bondage of old beliefs, releasing fears, getting comfortable with the energies, and finding balance and methods of tapping the source. These objectives are achieved through practice, energy healing, and often soul retrieval. Cosmic Sex The shaman is a "tween" person. They live at the point where opposites meet. They are between the real and unseen, the day and the night, the ocean and the land. They draw their power from the intercourse of energies. Sex is simply a form and metaphor for creative energy. Creative energy is the essential power of the universe. If we can tap it, we access within us all the energy that made all that we know. To walk in power, we live in a flow of creative energy. As the essence of our mother earth meets the power of our father universe we exist in a universal orgasmic copulation. To be fully in our power is to be completely within the flow. These concepts take many forms in ritual practices. Drumming is male energy (the beater) meeting the receptive female form (skin). The energy is received and returned between them. The pipe is the union of the male stem and the female bowl. The same is true of Tibetan singing bowls. The sweat is a male form of menstruation, the release of creative energy. We the bride meet the groom of Christ in the marriage bed of the world. Transcendence Can we know God if we shut ourselves away from who we are? Can we find union with the creator if we close the door to the living lessons we have been given? The objective is not to substitute physical pleasure or experience for spirituality but rather to open the door to what waits beyond our everyday knowing. We enter the treasure room of our life, and return with symbols and tools of power. We ascend our throne and, guided by love we assume the rule of our own lives. We open ourselves to be part of the universe and share our bed with the Divine. |
