| A class on the history and uses of passion and sensuality in spirituality |
| Part 1 Sex: Sexuality is constant part of our consciousness and society. It is used to sell us things, to motivate us and to entertain us. Spectrum: from "anything sexual is bad", to it is OK so long as you don’t go too far, to If it feels good do it. Through the guidance of patriarchal religions we are cut off at the waist. In energy terms, we dis–integrate the lower Chakras or power centers. Anything beneath the waist is bad, dirty, and vulgar. Don’t talk about it, don’t look at it, and certainly don’t play with it. Shamanic healing is a process of reintegrating the whole person. A shamanic world view From the Shaman’s perspective the entire universe is alive, a form of energy. Creation is the combination of energies. Don Juan taught Carlos Castenada that only a few people had the personal power to have sex. In that view, Persons conceived during orgasm had an excelled level of personal power and could handle sex with out ill effects. Most people are conceived during ordinary encounters and are limited in their power and are therefore best to avoid it to maintain their power. Shakers were a religious group that claimed to draw their power from sexual energy stored up through abstinence. They focused this energy into their work and developed craftsmanship that is still marveled at today. As with Shaman, they used altered states of consciousness to channel music from the other side. Many mystics have described their mystical experiences in sexual terms. Many people brush these experiences off as metaphors. They may however be much more than that. The bridegroom and the bride is an image of the church. I don’t think they were simply implying that we were holding hands. While it isn’t often discussed, many people experiencing a shamanic experience with a guide or power animal will develop an experience into a sexual encounter. Numerous alternative, earth based religions utilize sexual practice in their experience. Part 2: Sex as energy Sex is an act of creative energy. It can be an act of dominance (rape), or codependence. These situations generally come from wounding in our early life. Part of Shamanic practice is to heal those wounds using energy work and soul retrieval. Once a person has been re-integrated they can begin the process of tapping the resources of creative energy. We have access to the energy that created the universe. Most great leaders are very sexy. We have seen this in the last administration. Most achievers and business leaders are using sexual energy. They form their strategies on types of sexual encounters. Closing the sale is like getting laid. Most religious leaders do the same thing romancing prospective partners. They build energy to a climax. Most religious fervor is sexual energy. In the tradition of some Native American tribes the pipe is the ultimate or most sacred ceremony. It is in fact a metaphor of the act of creation (sex). Two parts are brought together to call in the energies of the directions, the earth and the creator. God, the universe as Male Goddess, the earth as female We live in the place of their union. It is the energy of the universe and the form of the earth that gives us our existence. Part 3: A sexual meditation Open your root chakra Visualize it reaching through the chair Reaching through the floor Through the dirt Through the rock To the center of the earth Let the energy of the earth raise through the connection As that energy rises, open a spot on the top of your head Reach through the ceiling Beyond the clouds to the darkness of space Through the space to the center of the universe Let the white light flow down through the connection As the red light of the earth comes up through your lower chakra, the white light enters through your crown. They move through your body and meet at the heart. As they meet, they explode in a burst of pink light that surrounds you, moving, pulsing, swirling. It builds and reaches out from you to the walls, to the street and then to every thing that exists. Sit for a time with this light in this connection. Then see a dimmer switch. You want to leave the light on but dim its intensity to keep life manageable. Part 4. Using the energy. You can use this exercise to enhance any situation, personal or professional. It is particularly effective prior to lovemaking. Some cautions. It is unethical to use sexual energy on anyone without their knowledge and consent. Make sure that you are whole and clean before trying to use this energy in relationships or healing situations. Otherwise you will create a relationship based on power or codependence. Conclusion: If we can bring all the pieces of ourselves together, and gather our power, we have unlimited access to all of the universe. We literally become Co-creators with Christ. |

| This is a lecture (not a demonstration, sorry) on some of the historical uses of sensuality in spirituality as well as a discussions on ways to integrate lower chakra energy. Its purpose is tap into the source of creative energy and reclaim passion .
