| Workshop participants will explore Middle Eastern and/or West African rhythmic & cultural traditions through hands-on experience. No experience necessary, all levels welcome, tape recorders encouraged. Loaner/for sale drums & hand percussion available--call or email in advance to confirm. All workshops will take place on Monday evenings* Middle Eastern rhythm traditions, 7-8pm.* Percussion instruments presented: doumbek/darbuka, deff (frame drum), riqq (Arabic tambourine), zills/zagat (finger cymbals). West African rhythm traditions, 8-9pm.* Percussion instruments presented: djembe, ashiko, dunun, shekere, bell. *Session one: September 11, 18, 25, October 2, 9, 16 *Session two: November 6, 13, 20, 27, December 4, 11 Cost: $10 per session Location: Tribal Fusion Studio, 1336 Monte Vista, Ste. #8, Claremont Contact Info: drummerchrisca@aol.com Payment acceptable at the door. Chris Gacsi, ethnomusicologist, music education specialist, & drum circle facilitator, has shared her musical knowledge for more than 30 years in private, small & large group settings, teaching world percussion (Middle Eastern, West African, Afro-Cuban/Latin traditions), as well as traditional Western brass, woodwind, percussion, voice, piano, & guitar. She also teaches, lectures, & performs locally, nationally, & internationally. Chris is also proud to announce her first solo CD, ONE, scheduled for release in fall, 2006. Chris creates drum circles for corporate team-building events, school programs, community happenings, private parties, & all types of special populations. |
